Does the Dao have a form? Originally, it had no name, nor does it have a form. And yet those who cultivate know this well: the Dao lies simply in cultivating one&#8217;s Heart-Mind (\u5fc3) and nourishing one&#8217;s original Nature (\u6027), and in nothing else.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bf60813 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"bf60813\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tAs for the Dao itself: it is the ultimate Void, yet not empty; it encompasses both Action (\u6709\u7232) and Non-Action (\u7121\u7232). Everything covered and supported by Heaven and Earth, everything illuminated by the sun and moon &#8211; all the myriad forms and colours from ancient times to the present, all the fleeting beauties and stirrings of the world &#8211; there is none that is not contained, moved, and transformed by this Dao.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c5035ac e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"c5035ac\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8539a1f elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"8539a1f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">II.  THE EPISTEMOLOGY OF CULTIVATION<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6743129 elementor-widget-divider--view-line elementor-widget elementor-widget-divider\" data-id=\"6743129\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"divider.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-divider\">\n\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-divider-separator\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e9a4fdb e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"e9a4fdb\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f3ecc74 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f3ecc74\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>A cultivator who knows the Root (\u672c) of Dao will surely come to understand its Function (\u7528). One who understands the Function will gradually come to be enlightened by its Wonder (\u5999). Having grasped the Root, one may then explore the Source. By exploring the Source and knowing the Function, one may then attain the Profundity (\u5967). By being enlightened by the Mystery, one may then have clarity of the Mystery (\u7384).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-eabbd42 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"eabbd42\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>When the Mystery is illuminated and the Wonder is known &#8211; when both the Substance (\u9ad4) and the Function (\u7528) of the Dao are fully grasped &#8211; then the Dao becomes inseparable from the self, and one can no longer turn away from it. The Root is established and the foundation is solid. The Dao has become integral and inseparable, for every single moment.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d972e5b e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"d972e5b\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d73cbce elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"d73cbce\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">III.  THE ETHICS OF THE SINGLE THOUGHT<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e2052b5 elementor-widget-divider--view-line elementor-widget elementor-widget-divider\" data-id=\"e2052b5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"divider.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-divider\">\n\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-divider-separator\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8fc8119 e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"8fc8119\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-035cc1d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"035cc1d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Within the daily affairs and moral relationships of ordinary life, there is nowhere the Dao does not exist. Those who attain the Dao become sages and worthies; those who lose it become fools or fall into wrongdoing. The distinction between a sage and a fool lies solely in the presence or absence &#8211; the attainment or loss &#8211; of the Dao.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-be894e5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"be894e5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The boundary between Principle (\u7406) and Desire (\u6b32) is extremely subtle and lies in the finest of margins. The judgment between good and evil resides in a Single Thought (\u4e00\u5ff5). If there is even the slightest error in that one thought, good and evil are already divided, and the difference between wisdom and folly is truly determined from that very moment. We who cultivate study the Dao daily and practice it daily &#8211; yet our purpose is no more than this: to rectify the Heart-Mind, to cultivate the self, and to align with the Dao.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c0b439d e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"c0b439d\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e471320 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"e471320\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">IV.  THE MISSION OF DELIVERANCE<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-efa927b elementor-widget-divider--view-line elementor-widget elementor-widget-divider\" data-id=\"efa927b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"divider.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-divider\">\n\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-divider-separator\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-22c37cc e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"22c37cc\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-145f016 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"145f016\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>To be neither too close nor too distant &#8211; this is to align with the Dao. To be without bias or leaning &#8211; this is to be aligned with the Dao. To be without worry or attachment &#8211; this is to be aligned with the Dao.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8ae8b6d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8ae8b6d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>But to take Universal Deliverance (\u5316\u5ea6) as one&#8217;s own personal responsibility, and to make the Heart of Dao and Compassion (\u9053\u6148) one&#8217;s own heart &#8211; this is to align with the Dao most fully of all. When the body and the Dao are unified, the person becomes a sage and naturally attains the wondrous mystery of the Great Dao.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5cce64b e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"5cce64b\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5a334d8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"5a334d8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">V.  A WARNING AND FINAL INSTRUCTION<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2059da0 elementor-widget-divider--view-line elementor-widget elementor-widget-divider\" data-id=\"2059da0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"divider.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-divider\">\n\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-divider-separator\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bfd45cf e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"bfd45cf\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9c271ef elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"9c271ef\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Yet if a single thought is lost, the mirror [of awareness] cracks into great error.\u00a0 All becomes the regret of a lifetime. This is to abandon the Great Dao within the realm of the formless itself. How can one afford not to be cautious?<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-22865ac elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"22865ac\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Every cultivator must therefore strive to seek the Way of Non-Action (\u7121\u7232\u4e4b\u9053) through the means of deliberate Effort (\u6709\u7232). And those who, through deliberate effort, can attain the True Essence of Teaching [\u771e\u5b97] of non-Action &#8211; their root is established and their foundation is firm. Only then do they not fail in what it is to be a cultivator.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bb382fa elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"bb382fa\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>It is my deepest hope that each of you will establish the Root of the Dao through Non-Action and establish the Base of the Dao through Action. Be empty and void. Be tranquil and at ease. Follow what is Natural (\u81ea\u7136).
